Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) prepayment certificates

What the HRT prepayment certificate covers, and why you might still need to pay.

Updated over a week ago

A prepayment certificate lets you pay a set price upfront for an unlimited amount of HRT medicines over a period of time.

You could save money using an NHS prepayment certificate.

If you already have a prepayment certificate, learn how to add it to your account.

What the HRT prepayment certificate covers

The HRT prepayment certificate only covers specific HRT medicines, so be sure to check the medicine you need is covered before you buy one.

If your prescription only contains HRT medicine, and it’s covered by your HRT prepayment certificate, you will not need to pay for your prescription.

Sometimes we’ll still ask for a payment

If your prescription contains other items, you’ll need to pay for every item on your prescription. This includes the HRT medicine, even if you have an HRT prepayment certificate. We’ll then automatically refund you for your HRT medicine.

You should receive your refund within 10 working days. If you do not receive it, contact us for further help.

If you’re going to need other items on top of your HRT medicine regularly, check if another prepayment certificate could save you more money.
